I can’t remember where I first read about Susan Spencer-Wendel, but I would bet money it was in the UF College of Journalism’s magazine: CommuniGator. Susan is a fellow University of Florida College of Journalism alum and the magazine featured her new book: Until I Say Goodbye. She found out she had ALS in June of 2011 and her book, published in March of 2013, is a beautifully written goodbye to her friends and family. The article was published in July of last year, but of course it took me a solid 7 months before remembering to check the ebook out from my local library (I blame mommy brain).
I haven’t set aside enough time to read as I would like since I’m a mother of two small children who don’t understand why I would rather read than play dinosaurs and princesses. Although one of my goals for 2014 was to finish 40 books by the end of the year. I purchased an Amazon Kindle Paperwhite so I wouldn’t be tempted to surf the internet like I do on my iPad and it’s worked well. I can read in bed at night without using a light and can focus on the story in front of me.
If you are looking for a book that will make you laugh out loud, sob and smile within minutes of each other, you must read Until I Say Goodbye. I stayed up way past my bed time to finish it and it was worth every second I was tired the next day. Susan’s writing style is refreshing and makes me want to write more (and start studying more). Not only does she inspire with her writing talent, but her outlook on life is absolutely incredible. I can only hope that I would have half of her grace if put in a similar situation.
After finishing the book (in one night because I couldn’t put it down) I immediately googled her name and was pleased to see she is still writing on her Facebook page for Until I Say Goodbye. Buy the book, then follow her on Facebook, you won’t be sorry!
